How we talk about security, legality and installer integrity
daemontools.org exists so you can download a known build with published hashes and clear caveats. No marketing fog about what Free License includes.
Current recommended build
12.6.0.2451
Legal usage policy
Use DAEMON Tools only with optical discs, ISOs and other images you are legally entitled to access. Mounting a backup of software or media you own for personal convenience is a common legitimate case. Distributing copyrighted images without permission is not.
Commercial environments should follow the Commercial License terms published by Disc Soft / DAEMON Tools rather than relying on Free License partner-offer builds.
This website does not grant rights to the software beyond facilitating an informed download. The publisher’s EULA controls redistribution and feature licensing.
Ethical usage statement
Virtual drives are infrastructure. They should not be used to bypass copy protection on media you do not own, or to host pirated libraries.
We describe paid modules honestly: Free License is useful and limited; advanced tools cost money. We also describe Free License partner offers instead of pretending the installer is empty.
When security incidents happen, we document remediation steps (uninstall, scan, move to 12.6) instead of burying them.
Source transparency
DAEMON Tools Lite is proprietary, not open source. Transparency here means:
- Published build metadata
- Version 12.6.0.2451, May 19, 2026 listing, 43.99 MB EXE size.
- SHA256 checksum
- a22b555a11458b0d7f3db0d76f78fb8519ae352ca249e9527efff600ccee5757
- Changelog excerpts
- Release notes summarized on the download timeline.
- Installer behavior
- Free path may present optional partner software; paid path removes those offers.
No-malware clarification
DAEMON Tools Lite is a legitimate disc imaging product. It is not designed to steal credentials or encrypt your files. Confusion usually comes from:
- Antivirus heuristics on virtual drive drivers
- Optional partner offer downloaders in Free License setup
- The separate 12.5.1 free-installer supply-chain event (fixed in 12.6)
Security notice
12.5.1 free installer incident
In 2026 the publisher acknowledged unauthorized interference affecting certain free DAEMON Tools Lite installation packages in the 12.5.1 line. Version 12.6 was released without the suspected compromised components and is the recommended upgrade.
- 1Uninstall the 12.5.1 free build if you installed it during the affected period.
- 2Run a full system scan with trusted antivirus software.
- 3Install 12.6.0.2451 or newer and verify the SHA256 on the download page.
Publisher statements indicated paid Lite, Ultra and Pro product lines were not affected the same way. Treat third-party mirrors of 12.5.1 as unsafe.
User responsibility disclaimer
You are responsible for verifying the installer hash, reading license prompts, and declining software you do not want. Virtual drive drivers require administrator rights; grant them only when you trust the binary.
daemontools.org provides informational pages and download entry points. We do not warrant uninterrupted operation, antivirus vendor decisions, or compatibility with every game or disc protection scheme.
By downloading and installing DAEMON Tools you agree to the publisher’s terms. If those terms conflict with anything summarized here, the publisher’s documents control.
