Troubleshooting and setup notes for DAEMON Tools Lite

Pulled from recurring user issues: mounts that never appear, installer partner offers, antivirus blocks, and the 12.5.1 upgrade path.

Image will not mount

Drive letter never appears, or Explorer opens an empty volume. Work through these steps in order.

Confirm the file is a supported type (ISO, MDS/MDF, MDX, NRG, CCD, BIN/CUE, VHD, ZIP…). Windows-native mount only handles ISO.

Open Drives and verify a free DT or SCSI slot exists. Free License caps the pool at four devices.

Try Quick Mount from the tray, or drag the image onto an empty slot.

If MDS needs its companion MDF, keep both files in the same folder with matching names.

Reboot after a fresh driver install. Some games conflict until you enable the full shutdown option added in 12.4.0.

Install on Windows 11

Download 12.6.0.2451 (64-bit). 12.4.0 dropped older OS targets.

Allow the driver install when Windows prompts. Virtual drives need kernel components.

After setup, mount a test ISO and confirm a new letter in Explorer.

On ARM64 Windows 11, use a build from the 11.1+ support line documented for ARM.

Antivirus warnings explained

Users regularly report PUP or Riskware labels on free installers. That history mixes real partner offers with heuristic hits on virtual drive drivers.

Verify SHA256 against the value on the download page before whitelisting anything.

Check the digital signature on the EXE. Unsigned or mismatched publishers are a stop signal.

During Free License setup, uncheck partner offers (toolbars, search helpers). Paid licenses skip this path.

If the engine quarantines the virtual drive driver after a clean hash match, restore that specific file only and retest mounting.

Move from 12.5.1 to 12.6

If you installed free 12.5.1 during the affected window, treat it as compromised until proven otherwise.

Uninstall DAEMON Tools Lite from Windows Settings.

Download 12.6.0.2451 from this site, verify SHA256, then install.

Use Virtual Burner to validate a layout before writing expensive blanks. Confirm the image mounts cleanly first.

Unmount when done

Clear tray slots after installers finish so drive letters stay predictable for the next session.
